PROFILE Next Door Company
When "Being Shown the Door" is a Good Thing

Authored by Lisa Mortillaro

"No one else is doing anywhere near what we are with decorative commercial!" exclaims Barbara Schechter, marketing director with Weston, FL - based Next Door Company. "We're at the forefront of decorative steel doors in the commercial market."

Next Door Company made their grand entrance just seven years ago, with custom-designed, high-end, stainless steel doors and frames as their specialty. The company's first five years were dedicated to the commercial market, however they tapped into residential in 1998 with a network of showroom dealers in four regions.

Every day, the company opens the door to new, exciting residential and commercial challenges. Their doors are known to distinguish any type of entryway, room or hallway - running the gamut from chic and modern to classic and traditional. Because each door is a one-of-a-kind treasure, customers take pleasure in developing one that compliments a specific design scheme or gives a space a distinctive signature.

Colored steel, embossing and glass are just a few of the many options from which to choose. The company's three distinct embossing shapes - cubic, orbital and dome - are available in a multitude of attractive designs, ranging from the dramatic to the whimsical. They offer five colors and nine beautiful finishes, and doors can feature a different steel finish and color on each side. Recently, they have added Bendheim architectural glass to their already comprehensive line and, in the first quarter of next year, will introduce Henry Glass, and Italian line of leaded- and fused-glass designs. Their Designer Glass rounds out the collection, featuring various etched-, leaded- and molded-glass.

"We work with architects and designers to help them create unique stainless designs that give dramatic looks to restaurants, offices, homes or custom designed buildings," says Schechter. This year alone, the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Washington, DC; three Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Chicago; and famous Dolphins football star O.J. McDuffie are among the company's clients.

Each exquisite masterpiece makes a heavy impression on everyone who walks through it. Aside from the incredible design, customers come knocking from the doors' durability. "Other steel doors are either galvanized steel, which rusts, or wood with a sheet of stainless cladded to the outside," says Schechter. These doors, however,, are guaranteed never to warp or rust. In fact, they are known to outlast the longevity of the home or building in which they reside!

In addition, the doors require little maintenance (stainless steel needs a simple cleaning), have outstanding longevity (outlast galvanized/carbon steel and aluminum) and are resistant to corrosion (resist oxidation without the addition of special finishes). "We sell a lot of doors to homes near the ocean," says Schechter. "Our doors hold up superbly in even the most corrosive of conditions."
